19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard courts

A revitalized Medvedev secured his first championship for over two years with success over opponent Moutet in the competition final.

The athlete, a former number one, has endured a challenging period, achieving just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a setback at the US Open.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in specific - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now training with his coach and Goetzke, he has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Moutet.

It is his first trophy following the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt from that period of 2023.

Success also means he has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one distinct events.

"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to secure a title is really nice," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his last six title deciders, including in Halle in the past months.

Medvedev's defensive play style and recurring emotional displays on court had caused commentators to wonder if his skill to play at the elite level was over.

However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and compete aggressively, backed up by an better serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the initial set against the tricky opponent, taking 4 of the last five exchanges to go ahead.

The competitors traded service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his initial ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to force a third set.

Moutet rescued four early-game chances in a tight deciding set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched the win with a rally at the net, with his opponent incapable to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
