Google to Invest $15bn for Constructing Artificial Intelligence Data Center in India
Alphabet, Google's holding company Alphabet Inc. is set to invest $15bn for constructing an AI computing facility in southern India's Andhra Pradesh state.
The infrastructure, which will be set up in the port city of Visakhapatnam city, will become a segment of Google's global network of AI centres located in twelve different countries.
"It's the largest artificial intelligence center that we plan to invest in worldwide, apart from the US," Thomas Kurien announced at an gathering in the capital city of Delhi this Tuesday, adding that the investment will be allocated throughout the next half-decade.
The announcement occurs when President Trump of the United States has been asking companies from the United States to give priority to local funding.
India's Increasing Significance in AI Infrastructure
India has risen as a major hub for AI data centers. India's inexpensive data services and swiftly increasing digital audience have established it as a hub for expansion of cloud and artificial intelligence for tech giants.
"The facility will bring our pioneering tech solutions to businesses and consumers in India, speeding up AI development and driving growth nationwide," said Alphabet's chief executive Sundar Pichai.
Project Details
A formal agreement to finalise the initiative is scheduled for signing this Tuesday, state authorities announced.
"It constitutes a major step forward for our state's digital future, innovation, and global standing," stated the state's technology minister Nara Lokesh, the technology minister.
The project will integrate AI and cloud systems with sustainable power solutions and an enhanced optical fiber network.
The State's Data Hub Strategy
The venture is included in the Andhra Pradesh government's plan to create 6GW of computing facility capacity by the year 2029.
Data centres are physical facilities that house the computing and networking equipment that entities use to gather, analyze, save, and share information.
These include servers, memory systems and connectivity devices like routers and firewalls, along with the essential electricity and temperature control systems to run them.
Funding Benefits
Across Andhra Pradesh, the government has been providing reduced-cost property and power to attract global investors.
Sector Expansion
The country's computing facility market has expanded quickly during the last five years, crossing the 1GW capability milestone in 2024 and nearly tripling its 2019 capacity.
