Despite embarking on their first-ever continental adventure, Crystal Palace are learning at a rapid pace. Missing key players like striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the Eagles left Dublin with a comfortable win that all but secures them a place in the Europa Conference League playoffs.
Another three points in their next fixture against Finland's KuPS should be enough to secure direct entry to the last 16, especially after a previous stumble against Strasbourg.
Fringe Players Seize the Moment
This occasion provided a platform for some of Palace's fringe players to shine. Christantus Uche, making only his second beginning since arriving on loan from Getafe, opened the account with a well-taken goal. Forward Eddie Nketiah contributed a second, finding the net for the second consecutive match.
The Shelbourne team that had concluded their league season proved no match even for a largely rotated Palace outfit. The visitors were further weakened by the reports that Mateta and Muñoz are sidelined with leg injuries.

Shelbourne were hanging on for dear life. Full-back Kameron Ledwidge was fortunate to avoid a booking for two robust tackles on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards rattled the woodwork with a powerful header from a corner.

The match was as good as over eight minutes before half-time. Yeremy Pino meandered past some weak challenges before calmly slotting a shot past keeper Wessel Speel to make it 3-0.
Following the break, coach Oliver Glasner seized the opportunity to withdraw key players like Kamada and Wharton. Substitute Romain Esse came close to scoring with his first touch, but saw his effort blocked.
Esse was desperately unlucky later on, seeing one shot strike off each posts before being gathered on the line. Uche also missed a glaring chance, indicating there is still scope for development in his game.
The only worry for Palace was a second-half knock to Justin Devenny, who limped off. This paved the way for 17-year-old forward Benji Casey to earn his senior debut, capping an otherwise positive night for the visiting side.
