Brian Eno Encourages Public Help to Propel Together for Palestine Song to UK Festive Top Spot.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to send a cultural melody to the Christmas number one spot. The project hopes to provide aid to communities in Gaza while also spotlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
An Opportunity for Solidarity and an "Surprise Victory"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a opportunity to stand with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He acknowledged the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“It would be fantastic if that occurred, yes,” he stated. “I won't be completely disappointed if it fails to, Christmas singles are a thing unto themselves.”
Powerful Theme of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the version of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's powerful central theme.
“The song holds a profound significance for a lot of people,” Barghouti said. “The essence is that I would prefer a dignified death than live a life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we desire to exist a respectful existence that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Recording Origins and Featured Artists
The song was recorded after a major charity concert held in late summer. Initially planned to be captured during the live event, the rendition was omitted from the lengthy event due to time constraints.
The diverse array of musicians appearing on Lullaby features a group of prominent voices from the industry. All participated in the benefit event, which successfully generated a substantial amount for charitable causes.
Final Touches and Availability
Lullaby was crafted by a trio of music creators. The song blends a fusion of the original Arabic with contemporary English verses.
The group managing the initiative have clarified that their goal is to raise as much as possible for a specific fund. These donations will be channeled to Palestinian causes through an established charity.
“We haven't set a rigid aim,” a spokesperson commented. “We will pursue as much as possible. Of course, the more the merrier. All proceeds are directed out to those in need in Gaza.”
The reality in the area was characterized as its profound destruction, with a huge proportion of property reportedly destroyed or damaged.
“Given that reality, a couple of million doesn’t make a massive dent. But I think what does make a difference is first of all making this cause better known and proving there’s another side to the story.”
The song is launching on Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the benefit event will be made available for streaming on a major video platform from mid-December.
